Earthy Zen Experience at the Thyme Wisper Tea Room

When you think of a tea room, do you think of Victorian teapots covered with quilted cosies and dainty English tea cups and saucers displayed among lace and flowers?  Although many tea rooms share this theme, many others vary in style and character. So what would describe the Thyme Wisper Tea Room?  I like to call it Earthy Zen.  The tea cups and dishes are traditional European china, but the tea pots are of earthy colors and come mostly from Japan, with a few from China. The Tea Room shares the space within an Herb Shop (how earthy can that be?) with its cork floor, knotty pine walls and high ceiling, low ceiling fans and a wood stove at one end.

To add to that sense of Earthy Zen, all the complements to the tea are vegan and gluten-free and, of course, very healthy.  So, of course, no sugar.  But also no honey, since vegan means absolutely animal free and honey comes from bees (who, after all, are animals).  So there is no meat, eggs, dairy products, or animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin.  And gluten-free means no wheat, barley, rye, spelt or kamut.  Oh my gosh!, you say.  So what's left to eat?  Let me assure you that there are healthy, tasty morsels to be served with my teas.

The menu will offer a choice of teas, from the traditional Black Teas (such as Earl Grey) and healthy Green, Oolong, White and Rooibos Teas to many delicious and healthy herbal infusions.  One of my favorite Green Teas is Pomegranate Green Tea.  A favorite Rooibos is Mandarin Rooibos Tea. As for herbal infusions, there is nothing like a cup of Lavendar Tea to sooth the mind or a cup of Ginger Tea to warm the body and ease indigestion.

The Thyme Wisper Tea Room is open Sundays between 11 AM and 2 PM. The menu offers a choice of teas to be served with a delicacy (Dessert Tea) or with a light meal served on a three tier curate stand (Afternoon Tea).  Capacity is small, seating only eight inside. A screened-in porch has additional seating for 16 when weather permits.  Call 615-337-9791, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
